WestCorp Solutions Ltd. is seeking an experienced Commodity Tax Advisor to support our client in Calgary, AB. This position will work out of the client’s Downtown Calgary location, with a Monday to Friday schedule of 8-hour days. Occasional overtime may be required depending on their operational demands. The initial contract is anticipated to run from June 2025 to November 2026, with the possibility of extension based on the client’s ongoing requirements.
Key Accountabilities
•Prepare, file, and reconcile commodity tax returns, including fuel tax, excise tax, sales tax, and GST/HST.
•Provide tax advisory support to internal stakeholders across functions such as finance, operations, and supply chain.
•Assist with data extraction and analysis to support responses to regulatory commodity tax audits.
•Work collaboratively with other tax team members to ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax laws.
•Maintain clear and current documentation to support internal compliance and external audit preparedness.
•Collaborate with automation and IT teams to optimize processes using tools like Power BI, Power Query, and Power Automate.
•Participate in reporting workflow optimization initiatives and contribute to digital transformation within the tax function.
•Identify and resolve data or process issues, document recurring challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement.
•Ensure data consistency and accuracy across tax reporting and compliance processes.
•Follow appropriate internal controls and SOX audit procedures.
Qualifications
•Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
•Minimum of 2 years of experience in Canadian commodity tax compliance.
•Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with the Microsoft Power Platform is considered an asset.
•Familiarity with SAP, including S4 HANA, is preferred.
•Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
