Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Die Repair and Sharpening Technician (Maintenance) to maintain, repair, and sharpen dies used in the processing of steel products. This critical role ensures tooling is maintained to precise specifications, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity across stamping and press operations at Venture Steel.
Key Responsibilities:
•Inspect, disassemble, and evaluate worn or damaged dies used in stamping, blanking, slitting, or forming operations.
•Perform sharpening, grinding, polishing, and rebuilding of dies using manual and precision grinding equipment.
•Ensure die components are within tolerances using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
•Maintain accurate records of die maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
•Work closely with press operators, maintenance technicians, and supervisors to identify tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
•Maintain inventory of tooling supplies, inserts, and die components; report shortages or damage.
•Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE when handling heavy tools, sharp components, and high-speed machinery.
•Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to reduce die wear and extend tooling life.
Qualifications:
Required:
•High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
•5+ years of experience in die maintenance, repair, or sharpening in a manufacturing or steel processing environment.
•Strong understanding of tool and die practices and metal properties.
•Proficient in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and part specifications.
•Skilled in the use of grinders, precision measurement tools, and manual machining equipment.
•Ability to lift heavy parts and work in a physically demanding environment.
Preferred:
•Formal training or certification in Tool & Die or Precision Machining.
•Experience working with progressive dies, compound dies, or custom steel tooling.
•Overhead crane and forklift certification.
Work Environment:
•Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to metalworking equipment, sharp edges, and high-decibel machinery.
•Standing, lifting, bending, and tool handling required throughout the shift.
