Wood is recruiting for a HSE Advisor to join its Operations Americas business, focusing on the Downstream & Chemicals sector. This opportunity is onsite in Clute, TX, United States.

The Role

The HSE Advisor will be responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to Health, Safety and the Environment with respect to Legislation, Company Policy and Management System and Client requirements, thereby ensuring business risks are prevented and mitigated. May also have direct responsibility for HSE Coordinators, as a mentor/trainer, within the Business Unit or Department.

Typical responsibilities

Developing annual HSE improvement plans in line with Company and Client strategic and business unit objectives
Managing the project HSE interface requirements; ensuring compliance with all existing interface documents and in the development of future plans.
Ensuring the requirements stipulated in HSE interface documents/plans are communicated to all relevant personnel
Managing HSE incident investigations and undertaking the appropriate reporting requirements.
Assist in coordinating internal and external audits
Communicating the important messages from incidents and accidents as a part of the Lessons- learned process to all relevant parties
Promoting and communicating lessons learned from within their own project; reporting deficiencies within project and corporate functions and recording all reportable issues within company action tracking and incident reporting systems
Ensuring that emergency response arrangements are in place and are communicated to all personnel; ensuring that project requirements align with Client requirements if these take precedence
Liaising with and building relationship with Client HSE Reps and HSE Coordinators as required
Managing attendance and participation at project HSE meetings, workshops and forums.
Maintaining a system for monitoring HSE performance
Developing a site HSE visit programme for both self and for project/contract management and for Corporate HSE management
Promoting workforce involvement in all HSE activities, initiatives and programmes
Leads in-house HSE training
Oversees the Travel Risk Assessment Process
Procures PPE and other HSE related items
Maintains contact with PPE/Training providers
Manages and maintains the company Incident reporting system with HSE Admin support
Coordinates attendance and prepare HSE meeting agendas
Attends HSE meetings, and produce minutes
Attends Annual review meeting, and produces minutes
Maintains document control and records registry
Assists in the formatting of procedures and forms
Maintains external contact with Control Risks and International SOS
Liaises with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with latest legislation
QHSE poster and notice board updates
Manages fire wardens and first aiders, ensure training is up to date and adequate cover is assured
Providing mentorship for graduate/new recruits into the HSE team as appropriate
Providing cross-Business Unit support as required
Carrying-out HSE Inductions for New-starts
Developing HSE presentational material to support inductions and Group initiatives
Monitoring, managing and / or delivering training requirements to new and existing employees, as assigned
Quality objective, KPI’s and metric reports
Supply monthly incident and headcount reporting information
Report HSE incidents and track to closure
Support level 1 and 2 incident investigations at the direction of the HSE Manager and the relevant Operations Manager

Qualifications :

CSST, NCCER, or equivalent in Technical, HSE or related industry
OSHA 30 and 500 Certificates

NEBOSH and IOSH Certificates (desirable)


Knowledge, skills and experience:

2-5 years in a technical role, or association with HSE role in another industry

Familiarisation with industry regulations
Good planning and organisational skills
Effective/competent MS Office Suite User

High level of communication skills in both written and spoken format

Effective 2-way communicator, comfortable with presentation of HSE presentations and programmes, able to build strong working relationships with peers.

Comfortable in both client and other 3rd party environments; able to build exemplary working relationship with client and other stakeholders.

Commitment to HSE and in particular safety and assurance and the need to drive down incidents and accidents across the Industry
