The Millwright is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing centrifugal, gear, vacuum, metering, diaphragm, progressive cavity, and other types of pumps. The Millwright also services compressors, gearboxes, cooling towers, and steam traps. Duties include pump alignment, implementation and maintenance of API seal support systems, service coordination with vendors, and collaboration with and possible training of other pump mechanics.
· Maintain, inspect, clean, repair, rebuild, and install pumps, electric motors, pneumatic & hydraulic equipment, compressors, combustion engines, and other rotating and mechanized equipment
· Install mechanical seals and diagnose failed seals
· Perform diagnostic work to determine the cause of poor or non-performance
· Use PPE, lockout/tag out/block out, and job permits to safely work around high temperatures, acids and caustics, and respiratory hazards
· Operate forklifts & mobile elevating work platforms; may operate vacuum trucks and mobile cranes
· Assist in the installation of formwork and epoxy grouting of pump pedestals
· Develop and deploy predictive maintenance inspection routines and preventive maintenance schedules
· Advise Warehouse Technician regarding stock of equipment, parts, material, supplies, and spares, audit inventory
· Assist with periodic safety inspections; identifies and corrects safety hazards
· Advise department personnel regarding shaft alignment, impeller and bearing clearances, fastener torquing, vibration analysis, and other quantifiable specifications and best practices.
· Knowledge of and experience utilizing precision tools, including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, machinist levels, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc.
· Familiarity with presses, torches, pullers, lifting equipment, rigging, etc.
· Ability to read and decipher pump performance curves
· Strong knowledge of mechanical seals and common seal failure causes
· Certificate of completion from a state accredited millwright apprenticeship preferred
· Minimum 5-year experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment
· Ability to effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing
· Ability to communicate in Spanish is desired
