Basic Purpose
The payroll analyst is responsible for the testing of updates, modifications and enhancements to the payroll functionality of the human resources information technology applications; extraction, maintenance and reconciliation of payroll data for the completion of payroll tax filings, tax payments and regulatory reports, daily maintenance of payroll adjustments, and processing the biweekly payroll.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesUpdates the Time and Labor system as needed, processes the biweekly payroll, including running all audit reports and resolves any errors. Creates the direct deposit file, the child support file and the positive pay file, uploads all files to the bank through the Wells Fargo portal. Creates and print s all live checks and advices requiring special handling
Calculates all federal, state and local tax payments, ensuring timely and accurate payments are made through the Wells Fargo Portal. Balances all federal, state and local wages and taxes on a biweekly basis
Reviews and reconciles payroll tax data and completes assigned payroll tax filings
Extracts and analyzes data to respond to internal and external requests and to complete regulatory filings and reports. Provides payroll report training to other payroll employees
Researches and analyzes payroll issues and assists in the development of payroll policies and procedures. Updates payroll documentation and provides guidance to other staff as necessary
Acts as a liaison to accounting, treasury and payroll customers to coordinate activities and resolve issues. Researches payroll bank account and the payroll payable reconciliation items and works with general accounting to clear outstanding items and coordinate escheatment activities
Maintains, modifies or enhances existing systems and applications to meet changing requirements, ensuring payroll systems and applications are current and in compliance
Monitors payroll and tax filing requirements and recommend solutions to support payroll goals and projects
Analyzes and identifies system data to provide information to meet the customer/user requirements or to complete regulatory reports
Develops and manages project plans for assigned projects; effectively review and prioritize projects and resources
Performs responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy
Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department and the company
Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary to effectively complete responsibilities; enhances job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training
Maintains sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting or related field from an accredited school and 6 of more years of related experience with 5 years of related experience in multi-state payroll administration or human resources information systems.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 10 years of related work experience with 5 years of experiences in multi-state payroll administration or human resources information systems.
Specialized Knowledge and SkillsDemonstrated skills and knowledge of accounting to reconcile and balance payroll and tax accounts. Demonstrated knowledge to develop payroll accounting processes and complete payroll tax filings. Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, decision-making, identifying key causes and workable solutions skills. Demonstrated skills in creating spreadsheets and databases and extracting information from the human resources/payroll, time entry and general ledger systems. Demonstrated communication, attention to detail, customer service, and organization skills. Able to multi-task and work in both a team oriented environment and independently. $32.84 to $38.61 per hour. Up to 10% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
