GIS Analyst Intern will have an opportunity to both learn the basics of GIS as well as grow into a full stack GIS expert. A summary of this progression might look like the below:
1. To start, GIS Analyst Intern will perform georeferencing and digitization of points, lines and polygons – engaging in a rote workstream we have at setld
2. In line with digitization, GIS Analyst Intern will also resolve data discrepancies and clarify requirements with Data Analysts
3. Once 1 & 2 above are mastered, there is opportunity to move into new product creation (e.g. setld GoM Data Product https://www.setld.com/featured-solutions/gom-data-product/)
4. First, data gathering and source verification skills are developed (e.g. using scripting and metadata analysis)
5. Next, data flow skills are developed (requires various scripting and FME skills)
6. Once the product lifecycle is learned and the data side of the product is complete, there is a chance to develop display / dissemination skills
7. After cartography and display value are well understood, there is opportunity to learn about web publishing and web map / app development (alongside other end user apps like BI / charting applications)
8. Potential to consult at large energy firms under our direction
