Job Summary:

The Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical power systems, control systems, and plant communication networks at the Mountain Peak Power Facility. This includes fuel gas control valves, flow meters, gas chromatographs, electrical meters, protective relays, PLCs, and engine control systems. The IC&E Technician also oversees electrical power systems ranging from 24V DC to 13.8kV AC, ensuring the reliability of power transformers, MCCs, generator breakers, motors, heaters, VFDs, and lighting systems.


As part of a small Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team, the IC&E Technician will become plant operator qualified and play a key role in plant operations, including rotating on-call coverage. This position also supports mechanical maintenance activities, assisting in engine repairs and inspections when needed.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain & Troubleshoot complex electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including power distribution, automation, and process monitoring equipment.
Interpret & Apply Technical Documentation – read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control logic diagrams to diagnose and resolve issues.
Perform Plant Operations – complete operator qualification and operate the power plant independently during on-call rotations.
Support Mechanical Maintenance – assist O&M Technicians with engine repairs, inspections, and general plant maintenance.
Ensure Compliance & Safety – follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, operate site vehicles (aerial lifts, forklifts, pickups), and adhere to all safety regulations.
Work Schedule & On-Call Rotation – maintain availability for rotating weekday, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage, responding to remote plant start-ups and operational needs.
Emergency & Planned Outages – provide flexible coverage during outages at the Kuester and Mihm Generating Stations as required.
Keep Pace with Technology – stay up to date with evolving industry technologies and contribute to the continuous improvement of plant operations.
Train & Mentor – assist in training other personnel as needed.
Use CMMS & Software Tools – document maintenance activities using CMMS and leverage software applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis.



Job Requirements:

Troubleshoot & Diagnose complex electrical and mechanical systems, interpreting schematics and technical manuals.
Operate & Maintain plant systems by successfully completing the plant operator qualification program.
Provide On-Call Support for troubleshooting, repairs, and plant operation during rotating weekday, weekend, and holiday schedules.
Adapt to Changing Demands by working extended hours, covering vacations, and supporting emergency or unscheduled maintenance outages.
Ensure Safety Compliance by performing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and adhering to all plant safety protocols.
Safely Operate Equipment & Vehicles, including aerial lifts, forklifts, and pickups, as required.
Work Rotating 8-Hour Shifts, alternating between day and night schedules weekly.
Stay Current with Industry Technologies and apply best practices in IC&E maintenance and plant operations.
Communicate Effectively with strong written and verbal skills for reporting, coordination, and teamwork.
Train & Mentor other personnel to enhance operational knowledge and technical skills.



Physical Requirements:

Work in varying temperatures and high-noise environments, both indoors and outdoors.
Ability to bend, sit, lift, climb ladders, and operate heavy machinery.
May be exposed to hazardous materials and high-voltage equipment.



Education / Experience:

Strong knowledge in AC/DC circuits, electrical theory, instrumentation, and control theory.
Prior industry experience in IC&E maintenance and troubleshooting.
Proficiency with CMMS and software tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Within this range, employee pay will be determined by a combination of factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and overall performance. As this job posting is available in multiple locations, the expected pay scale may vary depending on the specific geographic area.



Compensation Range per hour: $34 - $37


Please note that the compensation information follows a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules. The actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors as permitted by Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Rule 4.1.2. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform the position from Colorado.
