The Electric Trading Analyst (ETA) is responsible for performing activities related to the analysis and optimization of the short-term power portfolio. The primary area of responsibility is to assist in strategic decision making as it pertains to the optimization of the real-time and day ahead power portfolio. The Electric Trading Analyst is expected to work in conjunction with the Golden Spread Market Operations team as well as the ACES Power Marketing trading staff. Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GSEC) is part owner of ACES Power Marketing, and all real-time transactions are currently executed by ACES Power Marketing.
This position will also be responsible for real-time market intelligence and will recommend and coordinate strategy as needed with ACES Power Marketing to ensure maximum portfolio optimization. The ETA must work within compliance of industry standards, protocols, rules, and internal policies/procedures. This position serves GSEC and its Members by providing market analysis in regard to the purchase, sale, and trade of energy while mitigating risk by acting in accordance with GSEC market operations compliance.
Other related Market Operations functions will be assigned as needed. Examples of those functions could include congestion management coordination, Renewable Energy Credit (REC) coordination in three different markets as well as bilateral contract amendments for purchase power agreements. In addition, the Electric Trading Analyst will be part of a team responsible for the Mitigated Offer curve data depository and will coordinate such information with the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). Also, the position could be the liaison for several areas within SPP and Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) including but not limited to the Request Management System (RMS). The position will be heavily involved in short term load forecasting discussions for both SPP and ERCOT.
The ETA requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail while identifying discrepancies and making recommendations on how to solve the problem(s). This position must work independently while exercising judgement, initiative and professionalism in providing advice and recommendations that will affect the strategic value of the Cooperative and enable the Cooperative to achieve its key objectives.
