Job Summary
Under general supervision, generates, edits, manipulates, and maintains spatial and relational data within the Geographic Information System.
ResponsibilitiesProduces maps, reports, charts, graphs, and other products as needed, as well as identifies utility facilities accurately. Interprets recorded plans and specifications and enters graphic and attribute data into the GIS. Assists with field work, including Global Positioning System (GPS), data collection and related work efforts. Provides project tracking, reporting, and weekly project updates of work performed. Participates in responding to map and digital data requests for BPUB internal departments. Ensures the integrity of GIS department datasets at all times by operating within defined procedures. Digitally maps cadastral, electric, and water/wastewater distribution facilities with a high degree of accuracy. Routinely updates all required attribute data for GIS. Follows department procedures to upload and incorporate GPS data in the GIS. Completes other job duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of ESRI Arc GIS software suite, Databases, and Trimble (Pathfinder) software. Knowledge of AutoCAD and related tools is preferred. Knowledge of policies, procedures and practices of the department. Basic knowledge of GIS applications, spatial and relational database design, and understanding of digital mapping and public utility principles. Computer skills working with Microsoft Office programs. Strong oral communication and writing skills in English. Ability to solve basic mathematical calculations. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
Education & Experience Requirements
Associates degree in GIS or related field and one (1) year of experience in Engineering, Information Technology or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field may substitute for the minimum requirements. Experience in GIS is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy.

Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions including, but not limited to, sunshine, rain, sleet and 20 to 110 degree Fahrenheit temperature extremes. Must be able to work under adverse ambient conditions including, but not limited to water, mud, wind and dust.
