GIS Technician

Overview

Skeetchestn Natural Resources LLP is a growing and dynamic organization dedicated to managing and preserving lands, culture and wildlife within the Skeetchestn traditional territory. The GIS Technician will assist all departments with GIS mapping, data entry, reporting and project support as needed.

Responsibilities

· Forestry mapping: FSPs, WLPs, Cutting Permits, road plans, cruise plans, etc.

· Archaeological mapping: Archaeological site forms, field mapping.

· Vegetation and wildlife analysis and mapping.

· Create drone flight plans, pilot drones and process drone data.

· Provide technical support to crews in reporting and uploading field information and photographs into GIS database.

· Ensuring data entry is done in a comprehensive and seamless manner.

· Supply GIS data to external companies when necessary.

· Design reports and slideshows for SNR meetings.

· Assist with reporting and report writing.

· Other related duties as assigned by Department Lead.

· Conducting all business with respect to the Health & Safety expectations of SNR.

· Maintains confidentiality in respect to business and Band information when applicable.

Qualifications

· Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.

· Must have a diploma or certification in GIS.

· Experience in ArcGIS in a professional or volunteer setting preferred.

· Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management or related field preferred.

· Resources Inventory Standards Training (RISC).

· First Aid level 1 with Transportation and Endorsement certification is beneficial

Requirements:

· Experience with ArcGIS Pro suite of software, Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions is an asset.

· Experience or knowledge related to LiDAR and multispectral data is preferred.

· Experience using Model Builder and python scripting are considered an asset.

· Experience using and customizing field apps such as Avenza and Fulcrum are considered an asset.

· Experience with AutoCAD software and drafting concepts is considered an asset.

· Knowledge of forestry, archeology, ethnobotany, and environmental values.

· Knowledge of TUS, TEK, and plant identification.

· Must possess strong written and oral English skills with the ability of creating comprehensive notes.

Pay: $25.00-$31.00 per hour
