Health & Safety Advisor – Sarnia, ON

Start Date: As Soon As Possible Position: Casual, Project Based

Wage Range: $45.00 - $65.00/hr, commensurate with experience.

In the position of Health & Safety (H&S) Advisor, you will be responsible to provide H&S support the operations/ project teams. This is casual employment contract with eligibility to future opportunities for other project assignments in the Ontario region.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Report to respective Project Manager and provide H&S support and training to assigned Operations/ Project teams.

Ensure H&S compliance with local, provincial and federal health and safety regulations.
Provide information and training in emergency response procedures, hazardous material handling, and industrial hygiene policies and manages the collection, storage, transportation, and shipping of hazardous waste.


Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field or equivalent or a combination of a post-secondary degree/diploma and a post graduate certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
Completion of CRSP or NCSO designation or actively working towards the designation is an asset.
5+ more years related experience.
Extensive knowledge and application of environmental health and safety legislation and industry standards.
Ability to review a variety of sources such as legislation on health and safety standards to become informed of the scope of employee relations cases.
First Aid & CPR training.
Joint Health & Safety Committee member certification is preferred
High attention to detail and levels of accuracy.
Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Self-starting, team player willing to work collaboratively towards achieving the strategic goals of the company.
Strong verbal and written communication, planning, organization, conflict resolution and training skills.
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Sharepoint)


Working Conditions

May be required to work in a well-ventilated office environment with adequate lighting and temperature.
Standard office equipment will be used such as computers, photocopiers, fax, phone, etc.
May be required to work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
May be required to work in a portable trailer on client sites with adequate lighting and temperature.
May be required to work on customer sites, supplier premises and other facilities


Physical Requirements:

May be required to work outside of normal work hours on occasion to meet deadlines.
May be required to work shift work on client sites including unusual shift rotations.
