James CRAFT & Son, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Purchasing Agent to manage the procurement of materials, equipment, and services essential for our mechanical construction projects. The Purchasing Agent will work closely with project managers, estimators, and field personnel to ensure project requirements are met and procurement processes are efficient.
Responsibilities:
•Sourcing and Procurement:
•Identify and qualify reliable vendors and suppliers for mechanical equipment, materials (piping, fittings, valves, insulation, HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, etc.), tools, and services.
•Analyze and compare supplier bids based on price, quality, availability, delivery lead times, and compliance with project specifications.
•Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders in a timely and accurate manner.
Vendor Management:
•Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
•Monitor vendor performance regarding on-time delivery, quality of goods/services, and pricing commitments.
•Address and resolve any vendor issues, discrepancies, or disputes effectively.
Inventory and Logistics:
•Monitor inventory levels of standard materials and coordinate with project teams to ensure materials are available when needed.
•Coordinate and expedite deliveries to project sites, ensuring they align with project schedules.
•Manage the logistics of material returns, including incorrect or surplus materials and warranty claims.
Documentation and Reporting:
•Maintain accurate and organized procurement records, including purchase orders, supplier agreements, pricing information, and delivery documentation.
•Track and report on procurement activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
•Assist in the review and processing of supplier invoices, resolving any discrepancies with accounting.
Collaboration and Communication:
•Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, estimators, and field staff to understand material and equipment needs, specifications, and project timelines.
•Review project drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure procured items meet project requirements.
•Communicate effectively with internal teams regarding order status, potential delays, and alternative solutions.
•Provide timely information on the department's ability to supply unscheduled or rush orders.
Qualifications:
Education:
•High school diploma or GED required.
•Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
•Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Purchasing Agent or in a similar procurement role, specifically within the mechanical construction, general construction, HVAC, or plumbing industries.
Knowledge and Skills:
•Strong knowledge of mechanical construction materials, components, equipment, and services
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
•Experience with procurement software (e.g., Viewpoint, SAP, Oracle) or ERP systems is a plus.
•Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
•Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
•Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
