The HR Milner Generating Station ("Milner" or “Plant”) is a 300 MW combined cycle, natural gas fired facility commissioned in 2023. The Plant provides electricity to the Province of Alberta and is situated in the Smoky River Valley, approximately 20 km north of Grande Cache, and about 445 km west of Edmonton. Milner is important to the local economy of the region providing employment to approximately 30 employees. Milner is owned by Maxim Power Corp. (“MAXIM” or the “Company”) with headquarters located in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Station Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for operation of the station’s generating unit and auxiliary equipment to ensure both short and long term safe, reliable, and cost effective production of electrical power in accordance with station policies and relevant government standards and codes. The Shift Supervisor will lead the safe operation of a state of the art combustion turbine, heat recovery steam generator, and steam turbine generator. The individual assigned to this position will be required to work rotating shifts.
Typical duties include but are not limited to the following:
· Follow the station’s safe work processes and expect the same from others.
· Monitor equipment and identify opportunities for improvement. Participate in the development of maintenance plans to ensure equipment is available for safe, efficient, reliable use.
· Develop and implement strategies for reliable operation of equipment.
· Support and carry out plant projects as assigned.
· Coordinate operations work with internal and external departments.
· Mentor workers and monitor worker performance on an ongoing basis to maintain alignment to the station and department business plans, and to ensure the training and development of individuals in the operations group.
· Develop and support health, safety, environmental and financial improvement programs at the station.
· Minimum of a Second Class Power Engineers’ Certificate of Competency. First Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency preferred.
· Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply relevant Acts, Codes and Regulations, such as the OH&S Act & Regulations and the applicable ABSA regulations.
· Five or more years of related experience in the safe operation of combustion turbines, power boilers and auxiliary equipment.
· Considerable general technical knowledge of process control systems and power plant equipment.
· Effective communication, problem solving, interpersonal skills and demonstrated supervisory skills are a must.
· The ability to plan and organize a wide variety of work activities and to work in a high involvement work system.
