We are seeking a Summer Student – Plant Operator to join our team at the Kerrobert Thermal Plant for the 2025 summer season. This opportunity offers hands-on experience in a dynamic industrial setting, where the student will gain valuable exposure to plant operations while emphasizing safety and environmental responsibility.
Position Overview:
As a Summer Student – Plant Operator, you will work closely with the operations team, supporting the day-to-day activities of the plant while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational procedures. Reporting to the Lead Operators, you will assist with troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring plant processes, and other key tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist in the day-to-day operation of plant equipment and machinery
•Contribute to safety leadership by promoting safe working practices for both employees and contractors
•Troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges as part of the team
•Conduct performance monitoring and routine maintenance activities
•Implement and support safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures such as hazard identification, equipment lockouts, emergency response, and safe work practices
•Support plant inspections and maintenance projects
•Document operational data and contribute to reporting activities
•Vegetation Control: Assist in maintaining vegetation around plant facilities to ensure safety and operational efficiency
•Inventory Control: Help track and manage inventory, including spare parts and consumables
•Perform general painting and cleaning tasks to maintain plant aesthetics and operational standards
•Assist with housekeeping duties to ensure the plant remains tidy and organized
•Conduct general maintenance tasks such as pressure washing and surface cleaning
Qualifications:
•Currently enrolled in a Power Engineering program or Post Secondary Studies (preference given to Power Engineering students who have completed coursework)
•High school students are welcome to apply, though preference will be given to students in post-secondary programs, particularly Power Engineering or related fields
•Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with a strong focus on safety and detail
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills
•Ability to interpret basic facility drawings and documents (e.g., PID’s, line lists, maintenance schedules)
•Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
•Previous relevant experience in an industrial or power generation setting is an asset
