About This Job

We are currently recruiting for a Supervisor, Drilling and Construction to join our Calgary Office. This position is responsible for wellsite construction and coordination of the drilling schedule and new well drilling and re-entry operations. The successful candidate will ensure all well designs and operations are researched, planned, and executed in accordance with regulatory and industry standards. As required, the candidate will develop drilling policies and procedures consistent with applicable regulatory requirements and accepted industry practice. The individual will oversee the wellsite construction function, handle multiple projects and offer mentorship and direction to staff, external consultants and engineering firms.

The successful candidate will report to VP Operations and work in a close-knit department comprised of the Construction, Drilling, Completions, and Facilities Engineering functions. With a strong work ethic and desire to succeed while working alongside excellent managerial and technical staff, you will receive a great deal of autonomy to work with the Area Teams and field Production staff.


Activities and Responsibilities


Specific responsibilities include:

· Managing and directing the activities of field construction personnel.

· Providing direction and expertise in the areas of lease and access construction, cleanup, maintenance, and environmental and regulatory compliance.

· Working with the Area Teams and Surface Land to develop and maintain the drilling schedule.

· Working with Completions and Production to optimize wellbore design to satisfy multiple objectives and requirements. Alternative technical solutions will be evaluated.

· Ensuring cost estimates, AFEs, supplemental AFEs, and well programs are complete and meet Corporate objectives

· As required, supervising drilling staff and inhouse drilling consultants and directly overseeing field drilling consultants to complete well operations on time and on budget.

· Sourcing, negotiating terms, bidding out and managing equipment, inventory and materials requirements. (Some exceptions such as major drilling rig contracts and staffing and termination decisions will be managed closely with the VP Operations)

· Developing and maintaining a Preferred Vendors List and ensuring compliance with Corporate HSE requirements.

· Monitoring spending and budgets and approving invoices.


· Managing drilling related contracts and obligations

· Conducting cost and operational analyses of completed projects. Reporting results to Senior Management with recommendations for improvement.

· Being aware of Drilling factors and issues that are critical to success and reporting to and interacting with Senior Management to address and resolve them. Examples may include industry trends, regulations (eg. H2S release rates), cost factors (eg. standby charges), equipment availability, contractual matters, and work load and human resource issues.

· Supporting and managing Corporate HSE initiatives with HSE Manager.

· Evaluating new drilling technology and practices from other Operators and Service Companies.


Qualifications:

· You will be a drilling professional with 10 to 15 years of field and office experience in the oil and gas industry.

· It is essential that you have experience in a wide range of oil and gas areas in the WCSB and working knowledge of a diverse variety of zones.

· It would be of benefit to have some completions and production operations knowledge.

· You will also possess working knowledge of relevant OGC, ERCB, SER and other applicable regulations and standards and be familiar with regulatory submissions and process.

· You are a superior project manager and have a proven track record of working in a team based environment.

· In addition to field supervision duties, previous experience in a leadership role in an oil and gas company is preferred.


· A valid engineering designation is required.
