Position Responsibilities:
•Upon arrival to work, checks in with current shift on duty to receive vital exchange of information from personnel who are preparing to leave work.
•Performs daily safety and operational checks on equipment; including checking oil levels, grinding wheels integrity, belt tightness, polishing compound, and sand paper availability.
•According to specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) fabricates, machines, and constructs components, parts, and other tooling for use within the production facility. Performance of duties requires the Technician to perform highly accurate work in order to maintain extremely close tolerances on tooling. Items produced may have unusual or non-standard shapes.
•Throughout work shift, Technician operates sophisticated equipment, instrumentation and precision measuring tools.
•Applies complex mathematical formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.
Technician will load items onto a roll holder and transport the holder to the roll staging area and then use a two motor to deliver tooling to tooling area.
•Wearing gloves and using a degreaser and wire scrub brush, technician will clean all items. This motion can consist of twisting, turning, pushing and lifting of hands and arms.
•After cleaning, Technician will use a micrometer (measuring instrument) to check tooling for worn down areas. When rolls and other items become worn, technician must machine in a manual grinder to repair them or arrange for outside vendor rework.
•Throughout work shift, Technician is required to be proficient in the use of a variety of measuring instruments, including Micrometers, Calipers, and Tape Measures in order to take dimensional measurements such as root diameter of rolls, Outside Diameter (OD), Inside Diameter (ID), wall thickness.
•Technician is primarily responsible for maintnaing quality tooling for Weld Mill machinery in a safe and timely manner. May produce tooling for other areas of manufacturing facility or for special jobs.
•Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of roll tooling. This includes performing numerical counts and documentation of results (tooling condition, location, number, etc).
•During assigned work shift, applies skills and knowledge in machining operation, mathematics and blue print reading to assigned tasks.
•Technician will utilize a polisher to hold the ID and OD tolerance of tooling and to improve and maintain surface finish on tooling.
•Performs multiple tasks, within a fast paced team work environment, in order to provide tooling required in the production of carbon steel tubing manufactured to close tolerances on Weld Mill equipment.
•Technician is required to use their skill and knowledge to work and solve problems independently.
•Regularly communicates with production workers, as well as supervisors, to determine tooling needs and specifications or to evaluate and troubleshoot a problem. Troubleshoots mill setup problems that are impacted by tooling and document solutions.
•Maintains up-to-date tooling set-up sheets.
•Strives to meet production deadlines and/or emergencies in order to achieve company production goals. On a daily basis, reviews SAP mill rolling schedule; interfaces with Production Planning staff members and plans changeovers. Updates rolling schedule in computer.
•Coordinates the scheduling of tooling rework with production demands.
•Communicates with tooling rework vendors re: rework needs.
•Assembles ID rods as needed.
•Assemble weld boxes and shim packages.
•Maintains up-to-date tooling set-up sheets.
•Rebuild ID cutter heads.
•Inspect rolls, clamps, work coils, punch cut blades, knicker blade holders.
•Prepares phenolic blocks, clamps, work coils and straightener blocks for roll change.
•Fills out inspection form after roll inspection.
•Perform roll change without supervision or instruction.
•Change rolls in MSMS box, adjust box and troubleshoot use.
•Trouble shoot roll performance at mills.
