Position Specific Description

NextEra’s Regulated Trade Floor IT Gas Trading Team is seeking a highly skilled Principal Programmer Developer to drive innovation and automation in the gas trading arena. This pivotal role involves ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and continuity of the Hydra platform while providing top-notch technical support services to junior developer. The ideal candidate will exhibit flexibility, adaptability to the rapidly evolving technology landscape, and a strong enthusiasm for driving value in the energy trading business.


Key Responsibilities:

Lead the modernization and enhancement of trading systems to achieve “EMT of the Future”
Integrate the HydraGas platform with the new Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system
Streamline scheduling functionality to tie to EBBs
Containerize and simplify the HydraGas platform to improve maintainability, reliability, and scalability
Engage with end users to gather requirements, recommend cost-effective solutions, and provide excellent customer-focused service
Develop, integrate, and troubleshoot Hydra’s production trading platforms, focusing on upgrades and enhancements
Ensure optimal performance, security, and continuity of the Hydra platforms
Provide superior technical support services to trading customers
Utilize code repositories such as GitHub for software release management
Prepare detailed design documents for developers and create process flow diagrams for testers and end users to understand application functionality
Communicate clearly and effectively with other developers, end users, and management through strong verbal communication skills
Mentor junior developers


Required Qualifications:

Comprise working knowledge of EMT processes, expert understanding of gas trading principles, and superior knowledge of Hydra platform
Expert with C# programming, including LINQ, Reflection, and Multithreading
Proficiency with REST Webservices, JSON, and advanced Excel functionalities
Familiarity with using GitHub for version control and collaboration
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
Knowledge of NoSQL databases, especially MongoDB or DocumentDB
Expert with Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO)

Job Overview

This position assesses, designs, develops, integrates and troubleshoots technology to support business processes. Employees provide technical or functional guidance to project or work teams, as needed within specific or multiple disciplines. This position is accountable for ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and continuity of IT systems, as well as ensuring that excellent technical support services are provided.


Job Duties & Responsibilities

Analyzes, designs, develops, tests, debugs, implements, maintains, integrates, customizes, and enhances existing or new systems
Applies appropriate Agile or development methodologies, system development lifecycles, tools, and technology to manage development activities
Automates the handoff of code releases from development to operations (DevOps)
Participates in the change management and service ticket management processes including receiving, resolution monitoring, and ensuring customer satisfaction
Leads projects when needed and builds strong working understanding of the solution being delivered
Ensures user satisfaction by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely resolution of more complex problems
Designs, develops, and tests experimental application work to test new ideas with bounded cost and time frames
Ensures that applications processes are conducted in line with corporate social responsibility, security, compliance, environmental, and technical policies and applicable standards and legislation
Acts as liaison with regulatory agencies, vendors, and contractors on matters relating to computer systems as required
Defines metrics and monitors Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for systems being developed
Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

High School Grad / GED
Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
Experience: 6+ years
