The Fairview Energy Center, one of the world’s most advanced natural gas combined cycle power plants, is offering a Summer Internship opportunity for students interested in power generation and engineering. Featuring cutting-edge GE Frame 7HA.02 Gas Turbines and a GE Steam Turbine, this facility was recognized as Power Magazine's Top U.S. Facility in 2020. Located in the scenic Laurel Highlands, the plant provides a unique setting for hands-on learning in a high-performance energy environment. Interns will gain valuable experience in power plant operations, maintenance, and engineering while working alongside industry professionals.
Here's a look at the projects planned during this internship period:
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work is performed on an industrial site requiring protective clothing and equipment.
This is a full-time internship position for the duration of the summer, with flexible start and end dates based on the candidate’s availability.
The hourly rate of pay will range from $20.00 - $25.00.
We are accepting applications from students currently enrolled in an Engineering program (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field) or a two-year power plant technology program. Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.
When applying, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your interest in the internship program and relevant qualifications. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged. We look forward to welcoming a talented individual who is passionate about making a positive impact in the energy sector.
