Role Overview

The Civil Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all civil and structural aspects of energy

construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in

compliance with industry standards. This role involves managing earthwork, foundations,

roads, drainage, concrete work, and structural installations for energy infrastructure,

including power plants, substations, solar farms, wind farms, oil & gas facilities, and

transmission & distribution projects. The Civil Superintendent coordinates field crews,

subcontractors, and equipment to ensure smooth execution of project plans.


Key Responsibilities

Civil Construction Oversight

 Oversee site preparation, grading, excavation, and earthwork operations.

 Supervise the installation of foundations, concrete pads, roads, drainage systems, and


retaining structures.

 Manage pile driving operations for deep foundations in solar farms, substations, and


wind energy projects.

 Oversee structural steel erection, racking systems, and modular infrastructure


installations.

 Ensure all work is performed per engineering drawings, project specifications, and


geotechnical reports.

 Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and environmental teams to align civil work


with project goals.

Safety & Compliance

 Enforce OSHA, ASTM, ACI (American Concrete Institute), AISC (American

Institute of Steel Construction), and DOT safety regulations.

 Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and site safety inspections.

 Implement fall protection, excavation safety, and confined space protocols.

 Ensure proper use of heavy equipment, cranes, excavators, and earthmoving


machinery in compliance with safety regulations.

 Investigate and report any civil-related incidents or structural failures.

Scheduling & Coordination

 Develop and oversee civil construction schedules, ensuring alignment with overall


project timelines.

 Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to prevent


delays.

 Ensure the timely delivery of concrete, rebar, aggregates, geotextiles, and structural


components.

 Identify potential delays, bottlenecks, or weather-related challenges and implement


solutions.

Quality Control & Inspections

 Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and


geotechnical engineering requirements.

 Oversee soil compaction testing, concrete strength testing, rebar inspections, and


foundation load testing.

 Work with QA/QC teams to verify structural integrity, proper alignment, and


finishing quality.

 Ensure adherence to concrete curing, formwork removal, and backfilling procedures.

 Address and resolve civil punch list items and field installation issues.

Labor & Workforce Management

 Supervise heavy equipment operators, concrete workers, carpenters, steelworkers,


and civil subcontractors.

 Train and mentor site personnel on best practices in excavation, concrete pouring, and


structural assembly.

 Ensure efficient allocation of skilled labor and proper use of machinery.

 Enforce workforce productivity and compliance with labor agreements (if


applicable).

Equipment & Material Management

 Oversee the use and maintenance of earthmoving equipment, pile drivers, concrete


mixers, cranes, and graders.

 Ensure proper storage and handling of rebar, cement, aggregates, precast structures,


and geotechnical materials.

 Manage material inventory, logistics, and timely procurement of construction


supplies.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

 Provide daily and weekly progress reports to project managers and senior leadership.

 Communicate design modifications, site challenges, and technical issues to


engineering teams.

 Collaborate with inspectors, regulatory agencies, and clients to ensure compliance with


permitting and quality requirements.


Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 10+ years in civil construction, with supervisory experience in energy sector

projects (renewables, power generation, oil & gas, transmission & distribution).

Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction


 Certifications

Management, or related field (preferred but not required).

OSHA 30 (mandatory).
Certified Construction Manager (CCM) (preferred).


 Skills

Strong knowledge of earthwork, foundations, pile driving, concrete


structures, and structural steel.

Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, topographic surveys,


and geotechnical reports.

Experience with construction scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project,


Procore, AutoCAD Civil 3D).

Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team coordination skills.
