ABOUT WILDFIRE ENERGY:
WildFire Energy is an independent energy company focused on the acquisition, exploitation, and production of oil and natural gas properties in the United States through the application of modern technology and production optimization. WildFire’s principal assets are located in the Brazos Valley area of the eastern Eagle Ford.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Regulatory Accountant is responsible for the research, preparation and filing of all necessary regulatory accounting filings on a timely and accurate basis, working cross-functionally with our Accounting, Production Operations, Marketing and HSE teams.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•File State and Federal regulatory reports for production, as required
•Accurately calculate payments and submit regulatory reports to state agencies on a timely basis
•Report and pay prior period adjustments to the agencies on a timely basis
•Assist revenue accountants with processing severance taxes monthly
•Prepare account reconciliations to identify and resolve any outstanding balances
•Perform regression testing when necessary to ensure accuracy of regulatory processes and reports
•Communicate with other departments to ensure severance taxes, state and federal royalties are properly recorded and reported to the regulatory agencies
•Responsible for researching and staying current on new and proposed regulations to ensure accurate and timely regulatory filings
•Resolve preliminary variances and audit requests from the agencies
•Work with severance tax advisors to minimize severance taxes, obtain refunds and incorporate results into monthly filings
•Maintain policies, procedures and internal controls documentation related to specific job duties
•Analyze severance tax reporting processes and improve process automation
•Perform special projects that require knowledge of oil and gas regulatory accounting when needed
•Run ad-hoc reports for engineering, accounting, and regulatory groups
•Provide response/resolution in a timely and thorough manner to all internal and external inquiries

LOCATION/WORK SCHEDULE:
•Office Location: Houston, TX
•Hybrid Schedule: Mon - Thurs in office with Flex-Fridays (remote option every Friday)
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Proficiency in the use and application of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook), Spotfire, and the ability to learn new software or applications
•High standards of accuracy and attention to detail
•Proficiency to troubleshoot data variables
•Highly-driven and self-motivated
•Ability to deliver accurate results in a fast-paced environment
•Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
•Experience with Quorum On-Demand is preferred but not required
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, or related field from an accredited four-year university
•Minimum of 3 years of industry experience
